Concerto After Dvorak | David DeBoor Canfield

The International Saxophone Symposium, first hosted in 1978, is the United States Navy Band’s largest educational outreach event. Typically held each year in early January, this year’s event has been postponed to 2023.

The symposium features performances, lectures, and masterclasses, including marquee U.S. Navy Band concerts with guest soloists on Friday and Saturday nights. We look forward to bringing back the symposium in 2023, better than ever. In the meantime, we’d like to premiere a brand new video featuring members of the U.S. Navy Concert Band from the International Saxophone Symposium in 2018.

Concerto after Dvorak, for saxophone quartet and wind ensemble, was written by David DeBoor Canfield in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the U.S. Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium. Inspired by Canfield’s "After" series, a series of works written in the style of older composers who had never written for certain instruments, the great Czech composer Antonin Dvorak serves as the model for this work.
