Today we pause to remember September 11, 2001, honoring those that were lost twenty years ago, while standing resolutely with their families and loved ones.
The U.S. Navy’s three 9/11 namesake ships, USS NEW YORK (LPD 21), USS Arlington (LPD 24), and USS Somerset (LPD 25) honor those who lost their lives on September 11. Incorporating bow stems forged with steel salvaged from the World Trade Center site, the Pentagon, and from a dragline crane used for coal mining at the Pennsylvania site where United Flight 93 crashed, these ships signify the Navy’s commitment to American security, stability and resilience.
We will never forget the images from that tragic day and remain committed to ensuring that future generations learn about the resilience and fortitude of the American people that was displayed in the wake of the attacks.
